International Translation Day: 30 September
International Translation Day is celebrated every year on 30 September.
  • The celebrations have been promoted by the International Federation of Translators (FIT) ever since it was set up in 1953.
  • The day coincides with the feast day of St. Jerome, a Christian scholar and priest who was the first person to translate the Bible into Latin from the original Hebrew.
The biggest festival of Nepal ‘Bada Dashain’ begins
Bada Dashain, the biggest festival of Nepal has begun.
  • The festival starts on the first day of Navaratri.
  • Devotees performed Ghatsthapana and sowed maize and barley seeds for germination of the auspicious Jamara (barley shoots) in various parts of the country. 
  • The 15-day festival is celebrated in the month of Ashwin.
  • During Dashain, people worship goddess Durga for nine days.
Thailand, India sign trade agreements for Rs 2,400 crore
Thailand and India have signed agreements for Rs 2,400 crore to boost trade ties between the two countries.
  • The pacts were across segments including rubber, construction material, food and beverages, logistics.
  • The Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister of Thailand Mr Jurin Laksanawisit were on a first trade visit to Mumbai and Chennai, India to promote Thai products.
Telangana begins to celebrate the floral festival, Bathukamma for the year 2019
Marking the beginning of Sharath Ruthu, the nine-day floral festival of Telangana, Bathukamma has begun.
  • This year the festival is being celebrated from September 28 to October 6.
  • Bathukamma is a festival celebrated by the women on a grand scale.
  • In this festival, several seasonal flowers having medicinal values are used to make the idols.
Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu presents the 28th Saraswati Samman to Dr K Siva Reddy
Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu presented 28th Saraswati Samman, Dr K Siva Reddy in New Delhi.
  • He has hon the prestigious award for his collection of poems titled Pakkaki Ottigilite (Turning Aside While Lying Down).
  • The award, instituted by the KK Birla Foundation, is given annually for an outstanding literary work written in any official Indian language and published during the preceding 10 years.
  • It is the highest recognition in the field of Indian literature and carries a cash purse of Rs 15 lakh, apart from a citation and a plaque.
Cochin International Airport wins an international award for passenger satisfaction
Airport Council International (ACI) has recognised Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) as the best airport in terms of services it offered to passengers.
  • CIAL was ranked amongst the best airports in the 5-15 million categories in the Asia Pacific region for the year 2018 based on annual Airport Service Quality (ASQ) survey conducted by the ACI.
  • The award was presented to the authorities of Cochin International Airport at the second Annual ACI Customer Experience Global Summit held at Bali, Indonesia.
India lift SAFF U-18 Championship title for the first time
In Football, India defeated Bangladesh by 2-1 in the final of SAFF Under-18 Championship 2019 to lift the title in Kathmandu.
  • From the beginning, India played aggressively and Vikram Pratap Singh did not take much time to hand India a 1-0 lead.  Singh scored in the second minute of the game.
  • India's Ninthoinganba Meetei was declared Most Valuable Player of the championship.
  • This is India's maiden SAFF U-18 trophy.
  • India remained runners up in 2015 and finished third in 2017.
Indian junior boys win a bronze medal in Serbia Junior & Cadet Open
In Table Tennis, Indian junior boys Raegan Albuquerque and Yashansh Malik paired with the Netherlands' Lode Hulshof won the bronze medal at the Serbia Junior and Cadet Open in Mumbai.
  • The team put up a big fight before going down 2-3 in the semi-finals to the Czech Republic trio of Radek Skala, Tomas Martinko and Ondrej Kveton.
  • Earlier, in the quarterfinals, the combination of India and the Netherlands got the better of Spain and Slovakia 3-1.
Kento Momota wins Korea Open
Japan's shuttler Kento Momota won the Korea Open after defeating Chou Tien-Chen of Taiwan in the finals.
  • Momota defeated Tien-Chen 21-19, 21-17 to clinch the final that lasted for almost 53 minutes.
  • The world number one Momoto had defeated India's Parupalli Kashyap 21-13, 21-15 in the semi-finals.
  • In the women's final, He Bingjiao of China defeated Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon 18-21, 24-22, 21-17.
  • South Korea's pair of Kim So-Yeong and Kong Hee-Yong defeated Lee So-hee and Shin Seung-chan 13-21, 21-19, 21-17 to win the women's doubles.
Legendary singer Jose Jose passes away
Legendary Mexican singer Jose Jose who was often called 'El Principe de la Cancion' or 'The Prince of Song,' died.
  • The singer died after a battle with Pancreatic cancer, according to the singer's assistant Laura Nunez.
  • In a career of more than four-decade, the singer sold millions of albums and picked by six Grammy nominations.
  • However, the famed singer never took home a Grammy award himself.
